Burirdabri Mud walk

BURIRDABRI FOREST CAMP|BURIRDABRI WATCH TOWER|BURIR DABRI SUNDARBANS

The Burirdabri Forest Camp, or the Burirdabri Beat Eco Tourism Complex falls under the Bashirhat Range of the Sundarbans Tiger reserve. It lies at the easternmost part of Sundarban Tiger Reserve and this Eco-tourism complex was inaugurated in the year 2003. Because of its distance from the more populous and popular area around Sajnekhali/Pakhiralay/Dayapur, it has assumed the importance of being one of the lesser visited tourist spots in the Sundarban buffer zone. However, this watch tower is more easily accessible from the Dhamakhali Sandeshkhali entry points.

The boat ride through the Arbesi and jhila Beats of Bagna and Bashirhat range is pretty interesting. The forest here is dense, the creeks narrow and nature, extremely raw and wild. The Burirdabri Forest Camp is famous for the Burirdabri Watch Tower, a mud walk and mangrove cage trail leading to a view point known as Raimongal View Point.

The layout of the Burirdabri Forest Camp and the Burirdabri Watch Tower is very interesting and awe inspiring. One first walks over wooden bridges and then passes through the mud cage and finally reaches a wooden watch tower. This walk ushers in an element of awe as one can come across a few reptiles along the way and often spot a few pug marks all along the walk. An element of fear can creep in as one may come across a few broken fencing here and there.

The ground fauna consisting of snails, varieties of crabs and mollusc can be observed closely during the mud walk. This walk offers a natural view of the swampy and marshy land with mangrove trees roots spread all around. but don't expect to view tiger. It would be a rare case if you come across it, but it's presence can definitely be felt here. Just enjoy the serenity of the watchtower.

The Burirdabri Watch Tower also provides one with an eagle's eye view of the Bangladesh Sundarbans across the River Raimongal. The River Raimangal forms the international boundary between India and Bangladesh. One can see the Bangladesh Sundarbans from this watchtower.

The Burirdabri Watch Tower has a capacity to host 10 persons at a time. The Burirdabri Camp and Burirdabri Watch Tower, is often overlooked by tour operators as well as tourists, because of its distance from the Sajnekhali/Pakhiralaya/Jamespur area.

It is a must-see watchtower at Sundarbans and generally covered by India Beacons in a 3N 4D Sundarbans Tour package. For more information and tour involving Burirdabri, call us on: +91 9903295920 or +91 8585007393
